Former Hastings resident, Jean M. Smith, 80, passed away Friday, October 12, 2012 at Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill, Nebraska.
Services will be Monday, October 15, 2012; 1:30 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Rev. Michael L. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Jean was born on November 26, 1931 in Columbus, Nebraska to George & Florence (Warnick) Livingston. She graduated from Columbus High School and attended the University of Nebraska. She taught for two years at Osceola until marrying Charles E. Smith, Jr. on December 27, 1952; he preceded her in death on October 3, 2007. They lived in Florida while he was in the service and after discharge moved back to Hastings. She worked as a paraprofessional at Hawthorne School and later at the Hastings Regional Center as an occupational therapist for 20 years where she retired in 1993. She was active in the First Church of God as a Sunday school teacher and later did the interior decorating at the church.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles E. Smith, Jr.; and brother, Don Livingston.
