Hastings resident, Jean Boyd Shea, 87, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Wednesday, May 4, 2016; 6:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 5, 2016; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to the Hastings Community Foundation. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Jean was born October 24, 1928 in Hastings, Nebraska to Frank C. Boyd and Jane Murphy Boyd. Jean attended Hastings Public Schools, Hastings College, and Toby-Coburn School for Fashion Careers in New York City.

Upon graduation from Toby-Coburn, Jean began her merchandising career in Stores of the Federated and May Companies and ended her career in the New York office of Montgomery Ward. Jean traveled the world and loved the exciting, wonderful life that she had dreamt of as a child in Hastings. In 1970 she married John (Jack) Daniel Shea. Shortly afterward they moved to Tokyo, Japan where Jack was a director of a Japanese Company. After five years in Tokyo they followed Jack's career to Melbourne, Australia. In 1984, they returned to their home in Delray Dunes Country Club, Boynton Beach, Florida.After Jack's death in 1990 Jean remained in Florida until 2003 when she returned to Hastings.

Jean is survived by step-daughter Jo-Ann (Thomas) Monaghan of Albany, New York; step-daughter in-law Linda Shea of Bellbrook, Ohio; numerous great grandchildren; six nephews, Tim (Trish) Boyd, Frank (Molly) Boyd, Mike Boyd of Scottsdale, Arizona, Bill (Martha) Boyd, Pat (Karen) Boyd, Michael Boyd of Hastings, Nebraska; one niece, Jean (John)Fallick of Lincoln, Nebraska; numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Norma Boyd and Jerry and Blue Boyd; step-son Richard Shea; nephew Steven Boyd, niece in-law Dana Boyd.
