Hastings resident, Jean Vrana, 81, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Friday, September 12, 2014; 2:30 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be Thursday, September 11, 2014; 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family, to be split between cancer research and the Heartland Pet Connection.
Jean was born Verna Jean Hulin on December 9, 1932 in Aurora, IL, to Arthur J. and Irma (Molleck) Hulin. She attended schools Aurora, Rockford, and Peoria, IL, and in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska. Jean attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She married Philip Wayne Vrana on May 30, 1951 in Lincoln, NE; he preceded her in death on March 29, 2014. After two years in Kansas and two years in Iowa, they settled in Columbus for 17 years before moving to Hastings in 1973. She worked for the Nebraska Department of Labor/Unemployment Division for 30 years and retired in June of 1998. Jean was a long time active member of Grace United Methodist church.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Philip Vrana; and a granddaughter.
