Jeanne Widergren

Hastings resident, Jeanne Marie Widergren, 83, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

A memorial service will be held in mid-March at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice.

Jeanne was the only daughter of Arnold and Della Widergren who were longtime residents of Hastings, Nebraska. She graduated from Hastings College and received a Masters degree in Music from the University of Texas. She then taught music at Ohio State University for two years. She received three scholarships from the Julliard School of Music in New York City and later appeared in several operas. After graduating from Julliard she was a private secretary to David Merrick, the leading Broadway producer, for several years. She also worked as a private secretary to the President and Chief Executive Officer of International Paper Company in New York City and retired in 1985. In 1987, she returned to Hastings where she gave voice lessons in Davenport and yoga lessons in Hastings. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was active in community concerts, community theatre and sang with the Choralettes for several years.
