Jennifer Ann Hoagland, 66, passed away on Mother’s Day after a short, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. A loving mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and wife “Grandma Jen” fought with stoic dignity and maintained her selfless love for family.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Andrea Paulson officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to Jennifer Ann Hoagland Memorial Fund for the benefit of Central Community College. Visitation is 1-7 p.m. with family present 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Born in Chicago, she moved with family to Lincoln before attending the University of Nebraska where she met her husband Chuck. After their marriage in 1973, together they raised their family near Ayr, Nebraska for 45 years. Proud to provide for her family, Jennifer passionately advanced her education and career. She began a 22 year career in communications with KN Energy in Hastings. In 1994, she completed a master’s degree in teaching from Hastings College before entering education herself. After more than 21 years with Central Community College, she retired in September 2017 as Associate Dean of Instruction. Jennifer also participated in Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business, Industry, and Education committee, Leadership Grand Island, and the Chair Academy’s Organizational Leadership Development program.
Throughout her life, Jennifer’s love for her children and grandchildren could be seen by all those who knew her. Raising and supporting her family was her source of pride, and her face beamed with each mention of her grandchildren. Her motherly love will not be forgotten.
Jennifer is survived by her husband, Chuck; daughter, Erinn Golick and family Doug, Braden, Grace & William; son, Brian and family Amanda, Bentley, Charlie, & Savannah; son, Chris and family Mary, Henry, & Liam; brothers, John, Patrick, Mike, and Steve Scott and their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John & Alice Scott.
