Joan Halloran

Joan R. Halloran, 91, of Hastings, Nebraska, passed away peacefully September 7, 2016.

Joan was born in 1925 in Hastings to John and Sarah Kunst. She grew up in Hastings, moved to Salt Lake City, Utah as a teen and graduated from East High School in Salt Lake. While living in Utah, she sold War Bonds during World War II. She married her beloved husband, John "Jack" Halloran, in 1941 and returned to Hastings where they spent 49 years together owning and operating Halloran Farms. In the 1950s, she worked as a volunteer at Ingleside and a number of other charitable organizations. Joan was a selfless giver of her time and treasure. She was a devoted wife, a wonderful mom and a doting grandmother. Joan was a very patriotic American and passionate about politics. She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church for 50 years. Joan will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents; brother, John Kunst; son-in-law, Daniel Vap; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Halloran; grandchildren, Amy Vap and Allison, Matthew & Sarah Schreiner; and her adored Yorkie, Puddin'.

She is survived by daughters Linda Vap and Mary Halloran & husband, Michael Ellinghouse of Missoula, MT; Nancy Schreiner of Hastings, NE; Julie Halloran & husband, Ray Kuehn of Lincoln, NE; sons John "Steve" Halloran & wife, Ann, and Patrick Halloran, of Hastings, NE; her sister Willa "Billie" Walster of Salt Lake City, UT; and her cherished grandchildren, David & Margaret Vap, Andrew & Maggie Vap, Sarah Vap & Todd Fredson, Molly & Michael O'Shea, Rebecca Schreiner, John Schreiner, Emily & Alan Munsell, Jill & Kevin Fitz, Michael & Marna Halloran, Lindsey & James Rizzuti, Sam & Sadi Halloran, Phil & Mickie Halloran, Joseph Halloran, John "Jack" Ellinghouse, Luke Ellinghouse, Jennifer & Mitch Davis, Shelly Kuehn; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, September 12, 2016 at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings, Nebraska. Rosary begins at 9:45 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment immediately following at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be made to the Joan R. Halloran Memorial Fund.
