Hastings resident Joe Ray Dixon, Sr., 83, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.
Services with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard are 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert officiating. Memorials may be given to the Joe Ray Dixon, Sr. Memorial Fund. Visitation is 12-1:30 p.m. Thursday with family present at the funeral home.
Joe was born July 20, 1935, in Hastings, NE to Frank Eugene & Nina Mae (Whitcomb) Dixon. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1954. He was inducted into the Hastings High School Hall of Fame for Gymnastics in 2017. He served in the Nebraska Army National Guard and retired after 32 years of service. Joe married Cheryl A. Yost on February 14, 1979.
Joe was employed at Hastings Senior High and Whelan Energy Center where he retired for the second time. He was a former member of Optimist Club and was a current member of Eagles and American Legion Post #11. Joe was an avid antiquer and dog figurine collector. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Joe enjoyed attending all of their activities.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Jane Haase and Doris Helen Dixon; and one brother, Donald “Doc” Dixon.
