John Orvil Barta

Hastings resident John Orvil Barta, 82, passed away Monday, January 13, 2025, at VA Medical Center, Grand Island, NE. 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 18, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Pastor Tom Murray officiating. The burial with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. John was born March 13, 1942, in Hastings, NE to Stanley and Mary (Souchek) Barta. He graduated from Hastings High School and attended college. John served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965. He married Donna Leapline on February 8, 1964; she preceded him in death on April 17, 2024. 

John worked in the maintenance department for Agtronics, Dana Corporation, and Big G. He was a member of the Berean Bible Church in Hastings. John enjoyed meeting people at Big G when he was working there.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna Barta; sister, Ellen Kottwitz; and brothers, Stanley Barta and Wayne Barta.
