John J. Griffith

Glenvil resident John J. Griffith, 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. 

John was born on October 13, 1944, in Hastings, NE. He was the son of Kelly and Audrey (Garnett) Griffith. John was raised in Hastings, NE, and graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1962. John enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. on April 15, 1963, and was honorably discharged on January 16, 1967. John served in the Vietnam War and earned a Purple Heart. John went on to work for LT&T until retiring in 1997.

John met his wife, Jeanine Stones, in 1977. During this relationship, they united two families. They were united in marriage on August 8, 1997. 

John was an avid fisherman, camper, and golfer. For many years he was active in Alcoholics Anonymous where he made many lifelong friends. John was proud of his 37 years of sobriety. 

John was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Douglas Stones; sister, Alice; parents-in-law, Charles and Bonnie Theesen; three brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanine of Glenvil; sons, Michael Griffith (Heather) of Carmichael, CA, John Griffith, Jr. of Lincoln, NE, James Griffith (Charity) of Lincoln, NE, and Brett Stones (Jeanna) of Hastings, NE; three sisters; two brothers; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
