John Klingenberg

Hastings resident, John L. Klingenberg, 82, was called home on Friday, December 22, 2017, by his Lord and Saviour, wrapped in the love and strength of his family by his side.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, December 30, 2017; 10:30 A.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hastings with Pastor Barry Rempp officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Hastings Food Pantry and Children International. There will be no viewing or visitation.

John Lowell Klingenberg was born November 23, 1935, in Chapman, Nebraska the son of Arnold "Jack" & Gladys (Kruse) Klingenberg. He received his education and grew to manhood in Chapman, graduating from Chapman High School with the class of 1953. He furthered his education at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Research Agronomy in 1957.

He was united in marriage to Bonnie L. Foster on July 11, 1958, in Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Fremont, Nebraska where he was employed by DeKalb, later moving to Hastings in 1986. After retirement, he worked for Dr. George Adam for 18 years.

He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, where he sang in the choir and served on any committee where he was needed. He was always there with a helping hand for anyone needing a loving, guiding hand. While in Fremont he was a Scout Master for many years. He served on the Hastings Food Pantry Board, which was very important to him. He was a member of the Chorus of the Plains and involved with the Big Brothers Program.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold "Jack" & Gladys Klingenberg; sister, Jane Fienhold; and brother-in-law, Leonard Spiehs.
