John Schmidt

March 13, 1931 — April 6, 2015

Hastings resident, John "Roger" Schmidt, 84, passed away Monday, April 6, 2015 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial Services with Masonic memorial tribute will be Thursday, April 9, 2015; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. Samuel R. Rathod and Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church and Scottish Rite Care. Book signing and visitation will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Roger was born March 13, 1931 in Port Washington, Wisconsin to John Henry & Adeline (Wolfers) Schmidt. He attended school in Port Washington. Roger served with the U.S. Marines from June 1948 to June 1952 and served as a Corporal in the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart. He married Shirley Jean Littleton in 1950. They moved to Hastings in 1950 and Roger was a mail carrier with the US Postal Service for many years and had been earlier employed as a carpenter for Carmichael Construction. Roger was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, Masonic Lodge #317, Order of Eastern Star, Tehama Shrine, Scottish Rite, VFW, and Chosen Few.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
