John Stec

Hastings resident, John A. Stec, died October 10, 2015 as the result of a long term illness, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Wednesday, October 14, 2015; 7:00 P.M. at Livingston Butler Volland Chapel. Celebration of Life will be Thursday, October 15, 2015; 10:00 A.M. at Livingston Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska with Fr. Michael Houlihan officiating. Military rites will follow the service by the Hastings Veterans Organizations. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 14, 2015; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., and one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

John was born January 4, 1963 in Offutt Air Force Base to Anthony and Clementina (Zelasney) Stec. He grew up in and graduated from Harvard High School in 1981. He joined the United States Air Force in 1981 and retired in 2005, completing 24 years of service. He was united in marriage to Jenna Macy, October 10, 1998 at Travis Air Force Base in California. The couple made their home in Vacaville, California. This union produced a son, Zachary. After retirement, the three of them moved back to Harvard and later moved to Hastings.

In the Air Force, his duty was an air craft mechanic and crew chief on C141 and C5 aircrafts. During his 24 year career he lived in different parts of the world and flew many countless missions. During Desert Storm, he flew missions which involved flying equipment into the war zone and flying troops home to the United States when the war ended.

Enjoying his retirement and life in Hastings, he held many jobs but his illness held him back from working full time. He loved spending time with his son, coaching his soccer, football, and basketball teams. He also loved to hunt and collect antiques.

Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Zachary, Zach's mother, Jenna; father Anthony of Harvard; sister Terri of Sutton; brothers Steve (Donna) of Hastings; Michael of Hastings; David (Lisa) of Hastings. Nieces are Holly (Adrian) Carlson of Lincoln; Marissa of Lincoln; and Mariah of Hastings.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Clementina, on June 1, 2015, Grandparents, and many uncles and aunts.
