Former Hastings resident, John O. Theesen, Jr., 88, passed away, Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Plum Creek Care Center, Lexington, Nebraska.
Memorial services will be Thursday, May 6, 2010; 10:30 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to Elwood Care Center, Elwood, Nebraska; Grand Generation Center, Lexington, Nebraska; or First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska.
John was born October 25, 1921 in Adams County, Nebraska to John Okkel Theesen, Sr. & Antka Marie (Dudden) Theesen. John was in the U.S. Navy from July 10, 1942 to October 11, 1945 during World War II, and from January 16, 1951 to March 21, 1952 during the Korean War. On November 22, 1945, he married Edna P. Jack at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2006. He worked as a carpenter superintendent for Carmichael's Construction. He was a life time member of the First St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Eagle's Club for 45 years, V.F.W. and the American Legion for more than 50 years.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna P. Theesen; infant brother, Delbert Theesen; five sisters, Margaret Bunting, Thelma Coutts, Arlene Milam, Darlene Lockhart, and Edna Eckert; and three brothers, Henry Theesen, Charles Theesen, and Virgil Theesen.
