Jon was born in Hastings on July 18, 1989 to Dean and Michaela "Micki" (Mailander) Buscher, younger brother to siblings Eric and Alison. Due to complications at birth, he was stillborn and was revived. His short term prognosis was not favorable. He not only defied the odds during his first week of life, he continued to defy them during his remaining 24 years. He had many diagnoses, but he never let them define him. He was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, and a smile which could light up your darkest days. He had a keen sense about him which could detect any sadness you were experiencing, and make you understand that it would "get better". When he laughed, those around him couldn't help but laugh, and circumstances that appeared bleak, suddenly appeared brighter. His love and kindness was contagious beyond words. He knew no stranger, and generated love from all who met him.
Jon was baptized on July 18, 1989. Jon attended Hastings Public Schools, Life Skills Program, and graduated in 2008. He continued to attend school at CCC until May, 2010. Throughout his life in Hastings, his family was supported by an amazing group of devoted nurses who came into the home to monitor his medical issues, many of whom became extended family. On July 1, 2010, he moved to Grand Island and began his own new family, living under the attentive, loving eyes of the MSU and Mosaic staff. Some of his home nurses "moved" with him so they could continue to be involved with him. Jon loved and adored his family, and those feelings were returned to him without reservation.
Jon was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He also attended Peace Lutheran Church and Third City Christian Church while living in Grand Island. Jon enjoyed Nebraska football, Nascar, Wheel of Fortune, Lawrence Welk, Elmo, bright colors, and being outside.
Jon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold & Donna Mailander and Lester Buscher; and uncle, Darwin Buscher.
