Judith "Judy" Bullard

Hastings resident Judith “Judy” Bullard, 82, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, at The Kensington-Evergreen Court Memory Care Unit, Hastings, NE.

Recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 16, at Butler Volland Chapel with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17,  at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Hastings. The St. Michael’s Altar Society will be serving lunch in Theisen Hall immediately following the graveside services. At Judy’s request, fried chicken will be served, along with various side dishes. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with family present 6-7 p.m. Friday, June 16, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or Hastings Catholic Schools. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Judy was born March 8, 1941, to Dr. Paul S. and Alverta Anderson in Claremore, OK. She attended elementary school at Claremore Elementary and in Fort Supply, OK. Judy graduated from St. Cecilia High School in Hastings in the same class as her husband, Gale, in 1959. The family then moved to Pittsburgh, PA where Judy earned her Registered Nurse diploma from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She was united in marriage to Willis Gale Bullard on February 2, 1963, in Bridgeville, PA.

Judy and Gale raised three girls together: Debbie, Leigh-Ann, and Shari. Judy was not only a partner and homemaker in six different states during Gale’s Air Force career but also worked in a variety of nursing settings throughout the years. She was very active as a Girl Scout leader when the girls were young. Judy was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and served as co-coordinator of the Hastings Catholic Outreach Group for many years, making countless visits to nursing home and hospital patients. Judy was a voracious reader and enjoyed being outdoors in the sunshine. She had several chihuahuas throughout her life starting with her first when she was 16 years old.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sandra Ellison; and her daughter, Shari Lynn Bullard.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gale of Hastings; daughters, Debbie Bruni (Chris Grohman) of San Antonio, TX and Leigh-Ann (Ken) Black of Longmont, CO; grandchildren, Kyleigh (Nick) Lahvic of Alexandria, VA, Mackenzie Black of Missoula, MT, and Collin Black of Santa Monica, CA; great-grandson, Forrest Dean Lahvic; sister, Cathy Strohm of Pittsburgh, PA; and nieces, Gretchen (Simon) Nay, Erica Strohm, Jeannette Cook and Ann Ellison all of PA.
