Hastings resident Julie Anna (Janssen) Vanderpool, 68, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to ALS Association or First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for the Palm Cross Ministry. Visitation will be 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Thursday with family present 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Julie was born May 23, 1950, along with her twin sister to Helen E. (Heinz) and Henry E. Janssen. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She attended Hastings Public Schools graduating from Hastings Senior High in 1968. She then attended and graduated from Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She married Dale E. Vanderpool on January 14, 1983, and they were blessed with two sons, Joseph and Thomas Vanderpool.
She was employed by Mary Lanning for 40 years working in Pediatrics and Outpatient Surgery. She retired from there on May 23, 2012. Julie had been a member of the Nebraska Nurses Association and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority holding many different offices. Since retirement, she also did volunteer work for Mary Lanning Healthcare and Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village.
Her interests included singing, reading, attending her sons band activities in their high school years and in later years their softball games. She also liked to crochet and do computer games.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and numerous aunts and uncles.
