June Burmood

Hastings resident, June Corene (Meyer) Burmood, 73, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010, at her home after a valiant battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by loving family.

A memorial and celebration of June's life will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Marcus Mackay officiating. There will be a book signing on Monday, August 30, 2010: 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. and Tuesday, August 31, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church.

Born to Virgil Rudolph William Meyer and Ethel (Hinrikus) Meyer on January 12, 1937 in Hastings and lived with her family on the family farm located near Juniata, NE. June graduated from Juniata High School in May 1955. She began working at S.S. Kresge's immediately after graduation, then worked at J.M. McDonald Shoe Department and Blue Ridge Manufacturing- Mode O'Day Factory. She was a stay-at-home mother after the births of her two children, Bradley and Susan. Once her children entered school, she returned to work at the Hastings Middle School Lunch Program for twelve years. June was one of the first hires of Wal-Mart when Hastings welcomed the business to town. She celebrated her twentieth anniversary at Wal-Mart on April 14, 2010. She was very proud of this accomplishment; she made many friends of the wonderful associates and customers she visited with daily.

June was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Alexander Wayne Burmood; and aunts and uncles.
