Karen Eckert

Juniata resident, Karen G. Eckert, 71, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday, August 10, 2013; 10:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to Ronald McDonald House, Omaha, Nebraska. Visitation will be Friday, August 9, 2013; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Karen was born July 9, 1942 in Alexandria, Nebraska to Frederick W. Jr. & Clara M. (Robohm) Vorderstrasse. She moved to Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School in 1959. Karen served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 until 1962. She married Alexander "Alex" Eckert on December 11, 1965. Karen worked for the United States Postal Service and was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church and NARFE. She enjoyed going to the lake, riding motorcycles, sewing, needle crafts, and geocaching.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Logan James Kluver; and infant sister, Caroline Vorderstrasse.
