Karen Roback

Inland resident, Karen J. Roback, 58, of 320 Road 318, died Monday, January 12, 2009 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Friday, January 16, 2009; 11:00 A.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Barry Rempp officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, both in Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 14, 2009; 5:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M., Thursday, January 15, 2009; 9:00 A.M. -9:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and Friday, January 16, 2009, 1 hr. prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to First Congregational United Church of Christ or Clay County Historical Society.

Mrs. Roback was born March 3, 1950 in Ord, Nebraska to parents, Jim D. & Donna (Nelson) Hansen. She attended schools in Ft. Madison, Iowa, Canon City, Colorado, Sidney, Montana and graduated from Hastings High School in 1968. She was a graduate from Mary Lanning School of Nursing in 1971. She worked as a nurse at Mary Lanning Hospital, then at Perkins, Good Samaritan Village as a geriatric nurse and teacher. On September 16, 1972, she married Paul W. Roback at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings. She later became a Lay Minister and was a Minister of Caring and Calling at First Congregational United Church of Christ. She was a Sunday School Superintendent for several years and the children were always special to her. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, served on numerous committees and sang in the choir. She loved music. She was past President of South Central UCC Association of Nebraska and Youth Advisor of Nebraska UCC. She worked for many years at Camp Kaleo. She was a volunteer for Heifer International, board member of Clay County Historical Society and secretary for several years.

Mrs. Roback was preceded in death by her grandparents, father; step father & father-in-law, Charles W. Roback.
