Hastings resident Kathleen A. Foote, 79, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018, at her home.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 27, at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 28, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Private family burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Consider memorials to Hastings Catholic Schools Endowment Fund or Hastings Community Foundation. Visitation will be 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Kathleen Ann Moran was born on February 27, 1939. She was the third of six children of James and Alice Moran of Omaha. She attended Omaha Catholic schools graduating from Cathedral High School in 1957 going on to study Humanities at Duschane College in 1960. During the College World series in 1960, Kathleen was named “World Series Queen”. Presenting a gracious face to the athletes and thousands of visitors who attended the event.
On June 17, 1961, she married Donovan Byrne Foote at St. Cecilia’s Cathedral in Omaha. The couple originally met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend.
After a few years of living in Louisiana, Georgia, and Indiana for her husband’s medical training and military service, the couple returned to Hastings. The couple’s two children were born during this time.
A devoted wife and mother, Kathleen was very active in the community, participating in several service groups. A woman of strong faith, she was also a very active member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church.
In the early 1990’s, she was a founding board member of the fundraiser B.L.U.E, an annual event raising funds for Hastings Catholic Schools. The event continues to this day.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Donovan Foote, two sisters, one brother, a sister-in-law who live in Omaha, Lincoln, and greater Nebraska. Her children, Julia Foote and her husband Dr. Kris Mleczko of Grand Island and Margaret Foote of Hastings. Three grandchildren, Kyla Lindeque and her husband Darryl of Juniata, Kelly Foote of Hastings, Kodi Foote and his wife Jenny of Hastings and four great-grandchildren.
