Trumbull resident, Kathleen M. "Kathy" Shafer, 68, died Friday, April 10, 2015 at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, after a three year battle with Ovarian cancer.
Rosary will be Tuesday, April 14, 2015; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 15, 2015; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Joseph M. Walsh and Father Thomas Brouillette officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Trumbull, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Book signing will be Tuesday, April 14, 2015; 9:00 A.M - 8:00 P.M at the funeral home.
Kathy was born June 9, 1946 to J. LaVern and Phyllis (Brouillette) Bassett in Hastings, Nebraska. She graduated from St. Cecilia High School in 1964 and attended St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Lincoln. She married Kenneth M. Shafer on August 20, 1966 at St. Cecilia Church. Kathy had various jobs with Montgomery Ward's, KBS monogramming, and Trumbull Coop. She retired from Trumbull Schools. She was a line dance instructor in Hastings and Grand Island for fourteen years. She was a charter member of New Dimensions Extension Club. She served two terms on the Board of Directors for the YWCA and three terms on the board of directors of Great Plains Creative Arts and Crafts. She was instructor at Great Plains Creative Arts and Crafts camp for thirty-four years. She was owner of Kathy's Korner and Co-owner of Imagination Station. She was a member of St. Cecilia church, the Altar Society and Legion of Mary.
Kathy Shafer was preceded in death by her parents.
