Kay was born April 23, 1936, in Hastings, NE to Clarence & Helen (Breinig) Kohl. Kay loved her family, had great faith and enjoyed being a homemaker. She graduated from St. Cecilia High School in 1954 with a Full Ride Scholarship but chose to marry her beloved Alvin Mangers on May 7, 1955, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church followed by an adventure to Ft. Knox, KY. Following time in the Army, they lived their lives in Adams County in Hastings and farmed in the area. She enjoyed being a pork producer with Al and teaching how to cook pork healthy as well as when microwaves first came out how to use them to make nutritious meals. Together she and Al had three children.

They spent hours camping, fishing, celebrating, teaching, playing games, gardening, worshiping, and loving those children, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Kay loved to travel, square dance, and learn new things. She was a cherry pie champion and even more important a champion to many people that she helped throughout her life. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, crafting, hosting parties, and being able to spend time with family and friends. Holiday meals found the table filled with family plus someone extra. Good food and games brought her great delight. Music and laughter were sounds she enjoyed. She will be greatly missed but her legacy of love and faith will continue.

She was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, St. Michael’s and Assumption Altar Societies, and Home Extension.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents.
