Keith was born May 15, 1943, in Hastings, Nebraska to Anton & Wilhelmina (VanBoening) Classen. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1961. Directly out of high school, he served in the Army Reserves. Keith married Joan Kempf on September 3, 1967, and farmed in the area for many years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Blue Hill. He served on Blue Hill School Board, St. Paul's Lutheran Church Council, Nebraska Pork Producers, and Nebraska Quarter Horse Association.

Keith loved farming, horses, having a good conversation with a neighbor and telling a great story. His warm, ornery smile put all who met him at ease. You knew he was interested in you by all the questions he asked and the affirming nod he gave as he listened. He cherished his family, especially all nine grandchildren. In the eyes of his family, his greatest legacy is his genuine faith in God, his constant positive attitude and his unwavering hope of Heaven.
