Hastings resident, Kenneth E. Avers, 90, of 1495 South Wabash, died Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Veterans Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska.
Memorial service will be Friday, July 31, 2009; 10:30 A.M. at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Lee Wigert officiating. Burial will be in Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska at a later date. Memorials may be given to Grace United Methodist Church.
Mr. Avers was born May 17, 1919 in Davenport, Nebraska to Willie & Stella (Hughes) Avers. He graduated from Shickley High School, Shickley, Nebraska and from Milford Trade School, Milford, Nebraska. He entered the United States Army during WWII on March 28, 1942 and served until September 17, 1945. He married Evelyn Osborne on May 17, 1947. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Eagles, VFW, DAV, American Legion and Platte Valley Campers Group. He was a carpenter and a farmer.
Mr. Avers was preceded in death by his parents; 1 great grandchild, Crayton William Johnson; 1 sister, Wanda and 2 infant brothers and sisters.
