Kenneth Baker

Kenneth D. Baker of Hastings, Nebraska, 85, passed away Monday, September 28, 2009 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Wednesday, September 30, 2009; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with Pastor Alan Davis officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M. in Evergreen Cemetery, St. Edward, Nebraska. There will be no visitation as Kenneth chose cremation. Memorials may be given to the family.

Ken was born March 6, 1924, in Albion, Nebraska, to Walter and Pearl (Margerum) Baker. He attended school in Genoa, Nebraska; where he was an all-state quarterback graduating in 1942. He served two and a half years in the U.S. Navy, mostly in the Philippines. Ken farmed for three years following his service in the Navy, and spent 15 years in the Gamble store in Fullerton, Nebraska, as an employee and owner. He sold insurance for the next 25 years. He married Dorthy Ann Wells in 1944. She passed away in 1972. He later married Vera Steiner. She passed away in 2003. In 2006, he married Shirley Potter of Hastings. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hastings. Ken was a former member of the American Legion, Elks, and Southern Hills Country Club. Ken was an avid Husker fan and was much loved by family and friends for his great sense of humor.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and one sister.
