Hastings resident Larry Edsel Choate, 82, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024, at his home.
Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with family present 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 11, at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 15, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, IA. Visitation will be one hour before the service in Marshalltown, IA. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Marshalltown, IA. A Celebration of Life will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday, January 19, at Juniata United Methodist Church in Juniata with Pastor Kathy Uldrich officiating. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established or Juniata United Methodist Church. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is in charge of local arrangements and Mitchell Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Marshalltown, IA.
Larry was born March 27, 1941 in Iowa City, IA to Marvin Wayne and Crystal Blanche (Harmon) Choate. He graduated in 1959 from Albion High School in Albion, IA. He married JoAnn Linsenmeyer on August 27, 1960 in Albion, IA.
Larry worked for Marshalltown Instruments out of Marshalltown, IA until 1984 and then owned and operated Tempco Co. in Hastings until his retirement in 2019. He was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church, Elks Club, and Hastings Chamber of Commerce. Larry enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, fishing, camping, NASCAR, classic cars, and attending garage sales and auctions where he always looked for a deal. He was a very generous person who would help anyone out and was very social.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Perry Joe Choate; and sisters-in-law, Donna Eberle and Bette Choate.
