Larry Cornell

Former Hastings resident, Larry W. Cornell, 63, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Golden Living Care Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Graveside services and burial with military rites will be Thursday, December 9, 2010; 2:00 P.M. at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings with CH "CPT" Scott Ehler officiating. There will be no visitation; a book signing will be Wednesday, December 8, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M., Thursday, December 9, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family.

Larry was born August 19, 1947 in Hastings, Nebraska to Richard & LaVonne (Schmidt) Cornell. He received his GED while serving in the military. He served in the U.S. Army from February 23, 1966 until February 16, 1968 and from February 3, 1969 until December 7, 1971; and served two tours in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He received the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Marksman (Rifle) Medal. He married Patricia Christensen in October 1977 and they later divorced. He then married Jeanette Jameson and they later divorced. He worked as an electrician for ECI and Vans Electric prior to working as a journeyman electrician for numerous companies, including: T.I.C., Fagen, Interstates, Wilmar Inc., and E & I Specialists. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans; and was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Larry was preceded in death by his father; and son, Wayne Cornell.
