Larry began his life journey in Fairbury, Nebraska. Larry's family then moved to Hastings, where he was a member of the 1953 Class A American Legion Baseball Championship team. He then graduated from Hastings High in 1954, leaving his mark as a proud member of that year's state champion basketball team. Following graduation and two years of continued education Larry entered the work force, holding employment with Westland Homes for 25 years, before working for Millworks Company, from which he retired. Larry found his companion for this life journey in his wife Bonnie (Hinrichs) (Kissinger) Detter, whom he joined in marriage on June 30, 1979, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil.

Larry will be remembered for his love of nature, expressed by spending time in his cabin at Plum Creek and tending to his garden wherever he called home. He also enjoyed competition, becoming an avid bowler, making memories and friends through state and national tournaments. He lived solely for his family, placing them at the center of his life. This was exemplified by his devotion to the attendance of his grandchildren's sporting events, no matter what state they occurred in.

Those who knew him best will tell you his greatest love was his family and his highest calling was to be a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Larry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jacob and Gertie (Loschen) Detter.

Those left behind to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his wife Bonnie of Hastings; son Jeff Detter of Omaha; son David Detter of Temple, Texas; son Randy Kissinger of Hastings; and son Andy Kissinger of Sutton. Also holding him close in memory and faithfully continuing down the path he cultivated for them are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
