Hastings resident, Larry C. 'Pete' Peterson, 71, of 505 South Rhode Island, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 at his home.

Rosary will be Monday, March 30, 2009; 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 31, 2009; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Book signing will be Monday, March 30, 2009; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family.

Larry was born December 24, 1937 in Anan, Nebraska to Ward 'Marion' & Dorothy (Saathoff) Peterson. He lived outside of Pauline, Nebraska on the farm until graduating from Blue Hill High School, Blue Hill, Nebraska in 1955. He married Bonita 'Bonnie' Goedert on July 16, 1960. Throughout this union was born 3 children, Gregg, La Rinda & Michelle. They chose Hastings as their residence. He worked at Heating & Air Conditioning from 1960-1979. He was Chief of Communications of the Adams County Civil Defense and Hastings Fire Department. He then made a career change into Law Enforcement. He went to work for Adams County Sheriff's Office from 1979 until 1998. He attended Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. He was Captain of Investigations and wrote the first Comprehensive Manual for Jail Standards for Adams County Sheriff's Office. He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church , American Jail Association, National Jail Institute Department of Corrections, Association of Public Communications Officials, Peace Officers Association of Nebraska, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 12 and the Eagles Aerie 592. Larry's career with law enforcement continued for 19 years. He helped and touched many people's lives throughout his years in law enforcement, especially teens. Upon retirement in 1998, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. Camping, fishing and hunting were his personal hobbies. He attended his grandchildren's sporting events and spent quality time with them. He will leave behind a legacy of love and laughter, one that will not be forgotten.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
