Trumbull resident, Laura A. (Fischer) Kothe, 91, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Tiffany Square Care Center, Grand Island, Nebraska.
Services will be Friday, September 28, 2012; 2:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Renee Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Trumbull, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Hastings. Visitation will be Thursday, September 27, 2012; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present 7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., and Friday, September 28, 2012; 9:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Laura was born March 25, 1921 at the family home near Heartwell, Kearney County, Nebraska to Daniel and Anna (Klein) Fischer. She was baptized on April 17, 1921 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Heartwell. When Laura was one year old, the family moved to a farm southeast of Kenesaw. In 1938, she graduated from Kenesaw High School. The last two years of high school, she took and completed the Normal Training Course and began teaching in the fall of 1938. Her first school was Adams County District 23. On October 4, she married Roy Kothe at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, southwest of Hastings. Roy passed away March 19, 1997 and at the time of his death, they had been married for 57 years. Laura was confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church on April 2, 1941. She gave up teaching in 1942 but re-entered the profession in 1949 teaching at District 76 (Brickton) and then District 35 (Kelley) until 1953. In January 1954, the family moved to a farm southwest of Giltner. She substitute taught at the Giltner Public School for several years. In 1968, they moved to their present farm near Trumbull. Laura also worked for H&R Block in Hastings for several years before starting her own tax service in her home in 1968. She discontinued the business in 1991. In May 2012, Laura moved to Prairie Winds Assisted Living Community in Doniphan.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Emil, Leonard and Daniel Junior; two sisters, Margaret Miller and Viola Wells; and granddaughter-in-law, Tammy Hinrichs.
