Lavern Theisen

Hastings resident, Lavern A. "Vern" Theisen, 88, passed away October 5, 2017, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be 9:30 A.M. and Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, October 9, 2017 at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to Hastings Catholic Schools Trust. Visitation will be Sunday, October 8, 2017; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Mr. Theisen was born August 11, 1929, in Hastings, Nebraska to Henry J. & Viola L. (Weber) Theisen. He grew up in rural Adams County where he attended elementary school and graduated from Roseland High School in 1947. Mr. Theisen served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. He married Dorothy A. Loskill on June 25, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseland, Nebraska; she preceded him in death on November 24, 2015.

Mr. Theisen worked in the trucking industry from 1953 to 1970. He then became distribution manager for U.S. Electrical Motors in Hastings; retiring from there in 1991. Mr. Theisen and his wife owned and managed apartment houses in Hastings for many years. He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and a longtime active member of the American Legion and served as Post Commander at Hastings Post No. 11 in 1975. Mr. Theisen was a longtime volunteer member of the Hastings Military Honor Guard.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy A. Theisen; and brother, Kenneth Theisen.
