Former Hastings resident, LaVerne D. Sawicki, 77, of 2440 NW 2nd Ave., Lincoln, Nebraska, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at Tabitha Care Center, Lincoln, Nebraska.
Rosary will be Sunday, December 28, 2003; 7:00 P. M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska. Services will be Monday, December 29, 2003; 10:30 A. M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
LaVerne D. Sawicki was born June 26, 1926 in Farwell, Nebraska to John & Clara (Jonak) Sawicki. He attended Farwell and Ashton High Schools in Nebraska. He attended CCC in Hastings for two years and attended the Denver School of Commerce for one year. He served in the United States Army during WWII, 188th Parachute Regiment from September 26, 1944 to November 29, 1946. He received the Bronze Star while in the Army. On February 23, 1952, he married Esther L. Ostendorf in Grand Island, Nebraska. He was a manager of Wheelers and later was a postal clerk both in Hastings, Nebraska. He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and a past member of the Eagles and DAV.
LaVerne D. Sawicki was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carl Sawicki.
