Lenora Plum

Hastings resident, Lenora Emma Plum, 93, of The Hastings Homestead died Friday, October 19, 2007 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings. .

Services will be Tuesday, October 23, 2007; 10:30 A.M. at First Baptist Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Pastor Larry Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorial may be given to First Baptist Church for the music department. Visitation will be Monday, October 22, 2007; 5 P.M. until 9P.M. at the funeral home and Tuesday, October 23, 2007 one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Plum was born September 21, 1914 on a farm north of Clay Center, Nebraska to Edward Carl & Clara Theresa (Zimmerman) Genschmer. She graduated from Harvard High School, Harvard, Nebraska in 1932. She was a clerk in Kresge's store for several years and later graduated from Mary Lanning Nursing School in 1941. She also took courses at Hastings College and at Chicago Children's Hospital. She worked at the Foote Ear, Eye, Nose & Throat Clinic for 2 years, several years part time at Mary Lanning Hospital, 7 years as office nurse for Dr. Holcomb and 8 years at the Hastings Regional Center. On February 21, 1943, she married Melvin L. Plum in Hastings and he preceded her in death on February 7, 2002. They lived in Cleveland, Ohio for 7 years, where their children, Dean & Marcy were born. In 1950, they moved back to the farm northwest of Hastings, where they resided for 50 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, American Baptist Women, Ruth Circle, Y.W.C.A., Mary Lanning Nurses Association, Mary Lanning Auxiliary, R.S.V.P. and a pinochle club.

Mrs. Plum was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin, three sisters and two brothers.
