Leona Atchity

Hastings resident, Leona M. Atchity, 93, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society - Hastings Village, Hastings, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 14th, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the church with the rosary preceding Mass at 9:45 A.M. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leona Atchity Memorial.

Leona was born on December 24th, 1920 to Anna and Raymond Hoefer in Albion, NE. She married Victor Atchity of Kansas City, MO on June 30, 1942. She was a housewife and realtor in Kansas City while raising 6 children before retiring to Hastings in 1980. She is loved and remembered for her sweet nature, her delight in teasing and spoiling her grandchildren, and her phenomenal cooking and baking skills.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary Johnson of Willowbrook, IL, Dorothy Jean Woerdehoff of Hastings, NE; her brother, Raymond Hoefer of Longview, TX; her daughters, Jackie Hunt and Ben, of Helena, MT and Janet Spallo Mitchelson and Will of Lee's Summit, MO; her sons, Mike and Dianne of Hastings, Dan and Rochelle of Hastings, and John and Diane of Hansen, NE; 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor M. Atchity, Sr. and son Richard A. Atchity.
