Hastings resident Leona Lucy Florence Leonard, 96, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Central Nebraska Veterans Home, Kearney, NE.
Private Graveside Service with military rites will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to North Platte Veteran’s Honor Guard, 311 North Vine Avenue, Suite 2, North Platte, NE 69101.
Leona was born February 22, 1924, in Cheyenne Wells, CO to Herbert & Alma (Dieckmann) Steinike. She graduated from Cheyenne County, Colorado High School in 1942. Leona served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1952 as a Hospital Corpsman 2

Class. She married Nolin “Slim” Leonard on April 4, 1970, at Sharon Springs, KS; he preceded her in death on May 31, 2012.
Leona was employed as a cashier at A & P Tea Company in Kansas City for 17 years; retiring in 1970. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Holstein and Mary Lanning Auxiliary for 25 years. She was a charter member of Roseland Senior Citizen Club and was the last living starting member.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nolin Leonard; and sisters, Pauline Teague, Katherine Koeller and Bernice Dorzweiler.
