Leona Wahl

Hastings resident, Leona L. Wahl, 93, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Thursday, March 17, 2016; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Paul Warneke officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or Mary Lanning Hospice. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 16, 2016; 10:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Leona was born July 19, 1922 in Webster County, Nebraska to Gustav & Hulda (Kirsch) Drahim. She attended school at District 81, seven miles south of Blue Hill through 8th grade. Leona graduated from Cowles High School in 1940. She married Lawrence Wahl on May 4, 1941 at her parents' home in Blue Hill, Nebraska; he preceded her in death on June 1, 2005. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on May 4, 2005. Leona was employed as a nurse's aide for Mary Lanning Hospital for eight years and Hastings Medical Clinic for 18 years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed Pastor Paul Warneke's visits to her home.

To my family that didn't come to see me, I often laid awake at night when you were asleep, and took a walk down memory lane with tears upon my cheek. Remembering you was easy, I did it every day, but missing you was a heartache that never went away.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence Wahl; brother & sister-in-law, Ernest & Marie Radtke; sisters & brothers-in-law, Emilie & Roy Fieber and Alma & Elmer Kuehn; son-in-law, Richard Gibson; and brother-in-law, Delbert Bruce.
