Lila Poppe

Hastings resident, Lila Poppe, 83, of 818 Williams, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 25, 2009.

Services will be Tuesday June 30, 2009; 10:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings, with Pastor Greg Volzke officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Sunday, June 28, 2009; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Monday, June 29, 2009; 9:00 A.M.- 9:00 P.M. and Tuesday, June 30, 2009 1 hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church, 465 S. Marian Road, Hastings, NE 68901, Grand Island Veterans Home, 2300 West Capitol, Grand Island, NE 68803 or Hastings Community Foundation, PO Box 703, Hastings, Nebraska.

Lila Marie (Blumenthal) Poppe was born August 18, 1925 to Emil & Anna (Kort) Blumenthal on a farm near Blue Hill, Nebraska. She graduated from Deshler High School ,Deshler, Nebraska on May 21, 1943 and married Harold H.O. Poppe on August 29, 1943. They were married for 64 years and had seven children. She spent most of her life in the Hastings, Harvard and Doniphan area. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. She was a member of the V.F.W. Womens Auxiliary, a former Cub Scout Den Mother and softball coach. For many years, she owned and operated Poppe's Sundries in Harvard, Nebraska. Lila enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She loved sewing and playing the piano. In her later years after she suffered a stroke and was no longer able to walk, she discovered a love for computers and could often be found e-mailing or visiting over her webcam with friends and family, particularly grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; infant son, Stanley; her parents and a sister, Cora Barthelt.
