Lilian was born August 26, 1923 in Anderson, South Carolina, and was the youngest of four children of George and May Lilian (Duggan) Evans. Her brothers were Belton, George and James. After her father died in 1930, Lilian grew up in Georgia and California, where she graduated from Hollywood High School. After graduating from Auburn University in Alabama, Lilian worked in Georgia as a laboratory technician. There she met her husband, Charles L. Johnson of Minden, Nebraska, who was stationed in Georgia with the Army during World War II. Lilian and Charles were married on December 19, 1951 in Atlanta, Georgia and lived the rest of their lives in Hastings. Charles died in 1999. After several years as a full-time parent of her three sons - Charles, James (Jay) and David - Lilian returned to work in the 1970s and 1980s as an assistant in the psychology lab at Hastings College, under the direction of Robert Schalock. Lilian found her work at the college professionally and personally rewarding. Her official duties included caring for the laboratory's experimental animals. Her unofficial tasks included befriending and counseling many students and traveling with them to Europe and Asia on college-sponsored trips.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles and three brothers.
