Hastings resident, Lillian Josephine Cates, 78, passed away, Friday, December 23, 2016, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings.
Services will be Thursday, December 29, 2016; 10:30 A.M. at Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene, Hastings with Pastor Debra Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 28, 2016; 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00P.M. - 7:00P.M. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be given to Lillian Josephine Cates Memorial Fund.
Lillian was born to Charles & Fern Crandell, in Oak, Nebraska on November 11, 1938. She was one of seven children. Her family moved to Hastings when she was young. Most of her life was lived in Hastings, where she met Charles E. Cates Sr. in high school in 1955. They were married in 1956; he is still the love of her life. They had four children, Vicky, Chuck Jr., Sheila and Scott. Lillian had a few jobs when she was young, OK Café, and other eateries. She also worked at Mode O' Day for 25 years. She then started working for Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, another 25 years, retiring in 2009 as Housekeeping Supervisor. She was a wonderful person, made friends with everyone she met. Anyone who knew Lillian loved her and she will be deeply missed.
Lillian Josephine Cates was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Irene Matthews; brothers, Clarence Crandell and Elmer Crandell; husband, Charles E. Cates Sr. and son, Chuck Cates Jr.
