Lloyd Levander

June 21, 1919 — August 25, 2005

Hastings resident, Lloyd Vernon Levander, 86, of 1602 West 8th Street, died Thursday, August 25, 2005 at BryanLGH Medical Center East, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Services will be Monday, August 29, 2005; 10:30 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organization will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Mr. Levander was born June 21, 1919 in Sutton, Nebraska to William & Sophia Ada (Johnson) Levander. He grew up in Sutton, Nebraska and graduated from Sutton High School in 1938. In enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on December 20,1941 and served with the 370th Sv Sq 8th Sv Gp. He served 10 months in the United States and 3 years overseas in the Pacific theater and received an honorable discharge, November 4, 1945. He married Delores A. (Meyer) Croon, on November 22, 1946 in Hastings, Nebraska. In 1948, he started Whities Seat Covers and in 1954 he sold this to his partner and started Levanders Upholstery. He and his wife operated this until their retirement in 1991. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Benevolence Protective Order of Elks #159 since 1953. He was elected as its Exalted Ruler in 1959 and was elected as a Trustee of the Nebraska Elks Association in 1962. He was appointed District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler in 1975. He was elected President of the Nebraska Elks Association in 1978 and was appointed Grand Tiler of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Grand Lodge in 1989. In 1962, he was elected as a member of the Nebraska Elks Association Benevolence Commission. (This was better known as the Nebraska Crippled Childrens program for the Medically Handicapped Children.) He served as Chairman of this program for 17 years. He and his wife traveled throughout the state of Nebraska helping set up the clinics for this program. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #50 A.F. & A.M., serving as Master of the Lodge in 1966. He was also a member of Scottish Rite, Tehama Shrine, Order of Eastern Star, American Legion and a 50 year member of United Commercial Travelers.

Mr. Levander was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Memorial may be given to B.P.O.Elks or First Presbyterian Church
