Hastings resident, Lois I. Engel, 85, of 807 North Briggs Avenue, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at her home.
Services will be Monday, March 24, 2008; 10:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday, March 22, 2008; 10:00 A.M.-9:00 P.M, Sunday, March 23, 2008; 1:00 P.M-9P.M. at the funeral home & Monday, March 24, 2008; 1 hr. prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to donor's choice.
Mrs. Engel was born January 20, 1923, near Fairfield, Nebraska to John & Adele (Thiele) VonSpreckelsen. At a young age, she moved with her family to a farm near Clay Center, Nebraska and attended rural school and Clay Center High School where she graduated with honors. The following year, she attended Nebraska College of Commerce in Hastings, where she gained employment as a secretary for Jones Drug Company. On January 18, 1946, she was united in marriage with Bernard Engel. They moved to Washington, D.C. shortly after, where she found employment with Sears Roebuck & Company. They returned to Hastings in 1948 and she returned to being a homemaker and faithful church worker in both Sunday School classes and in ELCA activities. A daughter, Susan Kay, was born August 12, 1950, making a loving family of three. Lois was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Engel was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and her husband, Pauline & Paul Bieck.
