Hastings resident, Lola B. McKenzie, 92, of Good Samaritan Village, died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Perkins Pavilion.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, April 15, 10:30 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, with Rev. Dr. William G. Nottage-Tacey officiating. Graveside services will be at a later date at the Bingham Cemetery in Bingham, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the YWCA or Mary Lanning Hospice.
Lola was born September 22, 1915 on a ranch south of Bingham, Nebraska to Ernest and Fae (Edmudson) Powles. She attended rural school for seven years and graduated from Bingham High School in 1932. Shortly after, Lola married H.H. 'Mac' McKenzie of Alliance, Nebraska on November 29, 1934. They moved to Hastings in 1939 where they lived, worked and retired for most of their lives. Lola graduated from Hastings College in 1956 and taught school in the Blue Hill and Hastings Public Schools for nine Years. She was an active participant in her church circle, the YWCA, American Literature Club, Fish Fry, and enjoyed playing bridge.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Mac and three brothers.
