Lonnie Stark

Hastings resident, Lonnie L. Stark, 75, passed away on April 19, 2015 at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, Nebraska after a one and a half year battle with cancer.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Evangelical Free Church in Hastings with Pastor Randy Madison and Pastor Matt Sass officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorials can be given to Hastings Evangelical Free Church and all donations will go specifically to missions. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Lonnie L. Stark was born on April 9, 1940, in Hastings, Nebraska, the son of Fred and Virginia (Stone) Stark. He attended school in Hastings and joined the Navy in 1957. He met Bobbie Wells in 1958. They were married in 1959 in Chino, California. In 1960 Lonnie and Bobbie moved to Lincoln, Nebraska so that Lonnie could begin his working career with Nebraska Public Power. After ten years of working with Nebraska Public Power he accepted a job with the Bureau of Reclamation as an electrical substation operator at Fort Thompson, South Dakota. Lonnie and his family made their home in Highmore. It was located approximately 30 miles from Fort Thompson. While living in Highmore, Lonnie and Barbara were introduced to Jesus Christ as their savior. They were very active in their church and developed many dear friends. Over the next 34 years his job took him to Gering, Nebraska; Loveland, Colorado; Paul, Idaho; and Emmett, Idaho. He retired as a control center operator at Black Canyon Dam in Emmett, Idaho. After retiring Lonnie and Bobbie returned to Hastings in 2005. Lonnie had 3 children (Melody, Lonnie and Joel) and raised a great grandchild (Andrea). He loved antiquing, working out, hunting, fishing, golf, Husker football and coffee with friends at McDonalds. Above all, Lonnie had a love for his family and friends. People were always top priority to him. He deeply loved his church and specifically his Sunday school class.

Lonnie is survived by his wife Bobbie Stark of Hastings, NE, his daughter Melody Stark of Fort Collins, CO, his son Lonnie Stark (Phyllis) of Windsor, CO, his son Joel Stark (Ellen) of Hastings, NE, his brother Mickey Stark (Justine) of Loveland, CO, his brother Dennie Stark (Jeanette) of Vista, CA, his sister Patty Witrhlik of Omaha, NE; and 9 grandchildren: April, Ryan, Cody, Brandy, Tanner, Jami, Caleb, Colt, Jake; and 13 great grandchildren: Andrea, Adrian, Isabelle, Anthony, Alexis, J.J., Kaylee, Parker, Elijah, Brayden, Mason, Joslyn and Ryder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Stark and Virginia Stark (McCoy); a brother, Gary Stark; and a grandson, Brandon Jones.

He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by his family and many dear friends.
