Hastings resident, Loyce 'Meade' Thomas, 78, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at the Nebraska Veterans Home, Grand Island, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 25, 2009; 11:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Private family burial with military rites will be in Nebraska Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Grand Island, Nebraska. Book signing will be Friday, July 24, 2009; 9:00 A.M. -5:00 P.M. at the Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be given to St. Michaels Catholic Church or Asera Care Hospice.
Mr. Thomas was born February 10, 1931 in Lebanon, Kansas to Ernest & Esther (Strom) Thomas. He served in the United States Marines during the Korean War from January 30, 1951 until May 29, 1952 and received the Purple Heart. On February 12, 1953, he married Betty Genereux at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Campbell, Nebraska. He worked at the Hill Air Force Base, south of Ogden, Utah until retiring in 1972. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion and D.A.V.
Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents.
