Lucile Holmes

Hastings resident, Lucile E. Holmes, 93, died Monday, June 15, 2009 at her home.

Services will be Thursday, June 18, 2009; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Pastor Harold D. Stromer officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 17, 2009; 3:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. & Thursday, June 18, 2009; 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Lucile Evelyn Holmes was born October 30, 1915 to Carl Robert & Mabel Otelia (Alberts) Anderson in Saronville, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed in the Saron Lutheran Church in Saronville. She attended elementary school in Saronville, and graduated from Sutton high School in 1933. She worked in her father's bank in Saronville. On August 2, 1942, she married John O. Holmes in Saronville. When her husband retired from the Hastings police department in 1967, they moved to Loveland, Colorado and later to Kearney, Nebraska. They returned to Hastings in 1981. Her husband died February 11, 1997. She was an avid reader until vision problems interfered in later life. She then became a daily radio listener of talk shows and news programs. In 2003, she began living with her daughter and her family due to health problems. She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings.

Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant brother, brothers-in-law Grant Holmes and Elden Holmes, nephew Bobby Holmes, and special friends Geneva Brinkman, Verna Carlson, Evelyn Hrabak, June Jorgensen, and Eleanor Peterson.
