Luella Holmes

Hastings resident, Luella M. Holmes, 91, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Monday, May 2, 2011; 10:30 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be Monday, May 2, 2011; 1:30 P.M. in Lowell Cemetery, near Kenesaw, Nebraska. Visitation will be Sunday, May 1, 2011; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Luella was born March 23, 1920 at the family farm in Lowell, Nebraska to Merle D. & Anna (Lange) Owens. She was baptized into the Christian faith and confirmed on March 5, 1939 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Glenvil, Nebraska. She attended schools in Denman and Doniphan. She worked for Neilsen Bakery and Holthaus Drug Store in Hastings. On January 12, 1968 she married Lawrence Richard Holmes. The couple moved to Mankato, Minnesota where she worked for Brett's Department Store. In 1976 the couple retired to Aurora, Nebraska. Luella returned to Hastings in 1982 where she became a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Eagles Women's Auxiliary.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry R. Holmes; brother, Howard Owens; and sister, Dolores Tjarks.
