Lyle E. Cowden

Hastings resident Lyle Edward Cowden, 94, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023, in Hastings, NE.    

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 26, at First Baptist Church in Hastings with Pastor Larry Brown officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. with family present Sunday, June 25, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hastings Community Theater. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Lyle was born November 2, 1928, in Craig, NE to Francis and Edith (Marsolf) Cowden. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946. Lyle served in the U.S. Air Force from August 18, 1950 to August 17, 1954. He married Violet Montgomery on December 29, 1950; she preceded him in death on January 26, 1999.

Lyle worked at an anhydrous ammonia plant where he retired. He then worked for the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island in the power plant/boiler room where he worked for ten years. He was a member of Scottish Rite Free Mason and was a Master Mason and 32^nd Degree Mason.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Violet Cowden; brother and spouse, Wallace & Louise Cowden; sisters and spouse, Zora Budt and Zay & Don Bull; great-grandson, Lewis Gregory; and nephew, Ronald Cowden.
