Mabel L. Blaschke, 96, of Perkins Pavilion, died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Perkins Pavilion.
Services will be Thursday, December 11, 2003; 1:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. James Cooke officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, both in Hastings, Nebraska.
Mabel L. Blaschke was born June 5, 1907 in Lancaster County, near Hickman, Nebraska to Adrian E. & Wilhelmina (Lefferdink) Van Burg. She graduated from high school and from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln Teacher's College in Music and Latin in 1929, doing graduate work at Omaha, Columbia and Denver Universities. She taught music in Kenesaw, Nebraska for seven years before moving to Hastings, Nebraska in 1945. On June 5, 1947, she married Karl Blaschke and he preceded her in death on September 24, 1984. She was a music teacher at Hastings Public Schools for 27 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for over 50 years, P.E.O chapter FH, local, state and national Retired Teachers Association, YWCA, Mary Lanning Hospital Auxiliary and the University of Nebraska Alumni Association. She played the piano for Kiwanis from 1965-1995. In 1972, she was presented with a citation from Hastings College for years of professional services to student teachers.
Mabel L. Blaschke was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Karl, two sisters and one brother.
