Former Hastings resident, Mable E. Banta, 94, of Blakely, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at her home.
Graveside service and burial will be Monday, June 17, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at Parkview Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Sam Rathod officiating.
Mable E. Banta was born August 17, 1907 in Hartington, Nebraska to George W. & Blanche (Burnie) Jones. She graduated from high school and married Jeff R. Banta. He preceded her in death in 1994. Moving from Omaha, Nebraska in 1943, her family was one of the first to settle in Spencer Park as Jeff was a fire fighter employed at the Naval Ammunition Depot. She was active in starting the first Girl Scout Troop at Spencer Park. In 1954, the Banta's moved into Hastings, Nebraska where she continued her membership in the Methodist church which she had joined in 1922. She was honored in 1998 for her 75 years of membership. Upon Jeff's retirement as Deputy State Fire Marshall, they moved to Good Samaritan Village where she lived until their daughter, Janyce Larsen, died in January of 2000. She then moved to Blakely, Pennsylvania to be closer to her remaining children.
Mable E. Banta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jeff, son, Richard, daughter, Janyce Larsen, three brothers, Irwin, Alton and Dale Jones and 2 sisters,
Marjorie McCarthy and Maxine Willis.
