Madeline Nelson

Hastings resident, Madeline Claire Wolfe Nelson, 83, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society - Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services are Saturday, December 27, 2014; 10:00 A.M. at Grace United Methodist, Hastings with Pastor Cindy Karges officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to PEO Chapter FH, Ruth Circle Grace United Methodist Church or Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings. Visitation is Friday, December 26, 2014; 1:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. with family present 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. the funeral home. Visitation is also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Mrs. Nelson was born to Cyril and Dorothy (Van Orman) Wolfe August 3, 1931 in Laramie, Wyoming. She lived in Oberlin and Norton, Kansas. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1949 and attended Hastings College. She taught elementary school at Oberlin, Kansas; Holdrege and Hastings, Nebraska. On June 18, 1954 she married Burton Nelson. They lived in Hastings and had four sons. She was a para-professional at Alcott and Hawthorne Schools and was the Supervisor of the Pooh Corner Day Care Center and Emergency Protective Shelter for 12 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grace United Methodist Ruth Circle, PEO Chapter FH, and past member of BPW and the YWCA. She was a member of the Hastings Retired Teachers Association, Association of Retarded Citizens and was active with the Special Olympics. She was a volunteer at the Hastings Public Library and a member of the Hastings International Exchange Organization.

Madeline was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Dorothy Wolfe.
